The local terracotta from this collection is mined and processed by hand from our family’s land in New Jersey. Hand-dug soil is first soaked in water to separate dirt and debris. It’s then passed through successively finer sieves until the remaining clay is as pure as possible. Water is then siphoned off and the mixture is left to air-dry until it becomes a workable consistency. What’s left is a terracotta, fired at a low 1950 degrees Fahrenheit and finished with a simple clear glaze.
